Alright, I am here at Hofstra University in long island New York. As some of you may know the final presidential debate will be held here. This place is going to be insane with media, secret service and a perfect chance to get on TV!
I need ideas for a picket sign and possibly a good tee shirt to wear. I am going to try my hardest to get interviewed by as many news stations as possible.
I need the Internets help! McCain is against Internet Neutrality. I need to bash him.
Please leave a comment on what I should make a sign of, wear, and say to the news!!
I wrote this essay for speech communication. The topic was “Language.”
Language is a very interesting topic. The way we all communicate to each other is dominated by speech. The English language is a very developed and advanced language. I can communicate any message I want to any other English speaking human. Some instances might be had to explain, but overall the message can be relayed.
I am an avid user of the internet. As more and more people become driven by the internet, you will always have the people that will make fun of it. We all know of the “online jargon” such as “LOL”, or “BRB.” This is simply slang. The way we speak slang person to person is similar, for example is instead of me saying “okay”, I will say “word.” Slang is making its way onto the internet.
Recently I have noticed a lot of people on the internet using a spin off of the English language known as “lolcat.” A website that can be noted is, icanhascheezburger.com that was recently sold for two million dollars. This website simply has users put captions on pictures. However, people will use words such that, that when you pronounce them, they sound like real English. For example, the word “Hi” is typed “Hai,” and also the word “Harder” is typed “Hardr.” These words are spelled differently, yet pronounced the same.
This kind of slang seems like the people using it are in third grade. However how farfetched this jargon is, the owner of the website sold the idea for two million dollars.
I know I am a little late on this, but Google came out with their own browser called Google Chrome. It was a fast and unexpected release and picked up a lot of steam these last few days. I will do a full review another time, but you can download it here. It is only out for Mac and Windows at teh current time, with a post for Linux hopefully comming soon. It is optomized for security and speed. Give it a try.
For all of you that have Wordpress blogs, and most likey with Blogger, comment spam bots SUCK. Everyday I must get at least 2-10 spam comments. This needs to stop. Their webpages are not being indexed and there is no point. I installed a captcha comment system on the blog to hopefully reduce the amount of spam comments.
Sorry for the lack of posts, but I had to move into my dorm room at Hofstra on long island. My setup is good, with my dual monitors. Having my $99 Logitech speakers knock my ears out. This weekend has been pretty good and I am figuring out my schedule and getting back into working on websites.
Here at Hofstra I will hopefully start a website with the Information Technology club here.
Text messaging has become a ever so popular way of communmication. So for this year, 95 billion text messages have been sent by Americans. This number is said to grow because of the availability of full keyboard phones. This number breaks down to two text messages a day per american. An estimation has been set for 200 billion text messages to be set in total this year.
Have you ever wondered what a few people faces combined together looked like? This website does a pretty damn good job. With about 50 faces to choose, you can make an average face of the ones you select. There were not a lot of really hot girls so I was unable to create an amazing face, but I created the one on above with two faces.
I wish there was a possibility for you to upload your own pictures and average all your friends faces together. You Can! You have to register with them, here.
Digg.com is now starting a program where they have users propose questions to be answered by politicians and celebrities. Up right now is the speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi. Once the questions have been closed, they will then interview the candidate and post a video for all to see. I think this is a nice new addition. Some of the top questions for Nancy Pelosi:
Please describe what Net Neutrality is and your position on the issue. (My favorite, 900+ diggs at time of posting)
In 2001 you voted for the Patriot Act. In hindsight, do you regret this?
As a taxable resource, what stops marijuana from being legalized, for medicinal or recreational purposes, throughout the country?
I think this is a great program to have people answer questions that people want to here the answers to, not a regulated TV station.
